AADAP Receives 5 Year DOL Grant for $3M to Diversify Nursing Careers

Los Angeles, CA – The Asian American Drug Abuse Program, Inc. (AADAP) has been awarded a $3M for 5 years Nursing Expansion Grant by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration (ETA) for the Nursing Career Pathway Track. AADAP is one of 25 awardees nationwide, and according to a statement released by DOL “The grants will support innovative partnerships and strategies that expand and diversify America’s pipeline of qualified nursing professionals.”  We are extremely excited that the Department of Labor has accepted our innovative proposal to serve the community

The healthcare industry is one of AADAP’s sector industries for High Road Training Partnership (HTRP) and opportunities for quality jobs. AADAP will utilize cross-cutting principles of a Worker-Centered Sector Strategies for ensuring diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the implementation of this Nursing Expansion Program. The project’s goal is to train and provide access for underrepresented individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds and communities as frontline healthcare professionals into higher paying occupations that require training and certification in vocational nursing and nursing assistance. This grant for will be implemented in collaboration with existing partners in healthcare which include Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, Maxine Waters Employment and Preparation Center, American Career College, and Westchester College of Nursing and Allied Health, LA City Workforce Development Board, Philippine Nurses Association of Southern California, and CBO’s such as All People’s Christian Center FamilySource Center and others  serving the target population. 

AADAP’s Nursing Career Pathway Track will serve 220 individuals for 5 years, targeting underserved populations in Los Angeles County. AADAP has an established track record of providing high-quality and comprehensive job training and workforce development services for over 30 years. AADAP has built a network of trusted partners that work with underrepresented and underserved populations, that value and support career pathway programs for healthcare and other emerging industries.

Founded in 1972, The Asian American Drug Abuse Program (AADAP) is one of Los Angeles County’s oldest and most respected substance abuse treatment and prevention organizations. AADAP was the first publicly funded agency in the County to operate a substance abuse program specifically targeting Asian Americans. It remains one of only a few programs in the country to specifically provide culturally and linguistically sensitive treatment and prevention services to the Asian American and Pacific Islander populations. At the same time over its 50-year history the agency has broadened its mission and expertise to provide culturally competent treatment, prevention, mental health, youth gang, and employment services to serve all populations affected by drug and alcohol problems in the diverse Los Angeles County region, while broadening its staff diversity to reflect the cultural and ethnic spectrum of its community.
