Community Engagement and Wellness
AADAP’s Community Engagement and Wellness impact area is driven by the organization’s Prevention Department, which leads a range of programs designed to strengthen the health and well-being of the communities it serves. The department includes two core units—Community Integrated Prevention (CIP) and the Health Intervention Program (HIP)—which work together to deliver a continuum of prevention and intervention services. These services span alcohol and other drug education, advocacy, social and health service referrals, housing and harm reduction navigation, and linkage to care. Through these comprehensive supports, the department helps build resilience, enhance coping skills, and mobilize community networks. Together, these efforts promote health, foster meaningful connection, and support long-term wellness for individuals, families, and communities.
Community Integrated Prevention (CIP)
Coalition Engagement to Action (Youth & Adult)
AADAP’s community integrated prevention programs mobilize youth and adult volunteers across South Bay communities to advance advocacy, education, and the sharing of critical health information. The coalition builds community leadership and collective action to prevent drug misuse and strengthen overall wellness.
Substance Use Prevention (SUP) Advocacy Campaigns
AADAP’s community integrated prevention programs lead community and social media campaigns that promote healthier homes, neighborhoods, and schools. These advocacy efforts reduce substance misuse by encouraging positive behaviors, safer environments, and greater community awareness.
Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) & Lifeskills Education Workshops
AADAP’s community integrated prevention programs provide no-cost presentations and training for youth, parents, and community members on current AOD trends, life skills, and related health topics. These workshops empower participants with knowledge, safety strategies, and access to supportive resources.
Community Outreach and Engagement
AADAP’s community integrated prevention programs connect directly with communities through major health and prevention events—including National Red Ribbon Week, Prescription Drug Take Back Day, Alcohol Awareness Month, and National Prevention Week. In partnership with local organizations across the South Bay of Los Angeles County, these events promote community involvement, mobilization, and wellness.
Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Social Services and Employment Access
AADAP’s community prevention programs support low-income and underserved Asian American and Pacific Islander communities by providing access to essential social services—such as health and nutrition resources, employment preparation, and referral services—to promote long-term stability and well-being.
Health Intervention Program (HIP)
Harm Reduction (HR) Direct Services
AADAP’s health intervention programs deliver a comprehensive range of harm reduction support, including Syringe Services Program (SSP) activities, safer-use and safer-sex supplies, and hygiene and wound-care kits. The program also provides linkage to health and supportive services, along with client-centered case management that meets individuals where they are and supports their path toward safety, stability, and improved wellness.
Health Education & Overdose Prevention (Harm Reduction)
AADAP’s health intervention programs provide compassionate, person-centered education for individuals experiencing drug use, addiction, homelessness, or other wellness challenges. These services also extend to providers, family members, and others supporting vulnerable populations, equipping them with harm reduction principles, resource navigation skills, and practical strategies to offer effective, nonjudgmental support.
HIV & Hepatitis Testing and Referral
AADAP’s health intervention programs offer free, confidential HIV and Hepatitis C testing to help individuals know their status and stay healthy. Services include follow-up support such as prevention options (including PrEP), treatment referrals, and next steps to ensure access to ongoing care.
Housing Assistance & Supportive Services
AADAP’s health intervention programs provide housing-focused case management and referrals through the Los Angeles Housing Services Authority (LAHSA) and partner agencies across South Los Angeles. Services help individuals navigate housing resources, secure stable placements, and access supportive services that promote long-term safety and well-being.
People Need People Drop-In Center
AADAP’s health intervention programs offer a safe, low-barrier wellness hub for women and other vulnerable community members. The center offers access to nutrition, basic needs, health and harm reduction services, and supportive linkages to treatment, counseling, employment resources, healthcare, and additional wraparound support.
